How does a round work?
You tap Start a round. Within seconds you are talking to a verified single near you. A ring timer counts down three minutes. At any point either of you can Like or Skip. If you both Like, it is a match and the chat stays open in Messages.
How many rounds do I get?
Three rounds a day are free. Hej Plus makes them unlimited, and a single extra round can also be bought with coins.
Why do I have to verify myself?
Because everyone else did. Before your first round you record a short selfie video, which is compared with the photos on your profile. It takes about ten seconds, and the video is deleted once the check has run. Without verification you cannot start a round.
The verification keeps failing. What now?
Try again in better light, facing a window, without a hat or sunglasses, and keep your face inside the oval. If it still fails, the problem is usually your main profile photo: it has to clearly show your face. Change it and run the check again. If you are still stuck, email us.
What happens after a match?
The chat opens in Messages and stays there. You can keep talking with text, voice notes, photos and GIFs, and start a voice or video call when it feels right. A round that ends without a match leaves nothing behind.
What is in Hej Plus?
Unlimited rounds, the list of everyone who liked you first, Encore to bring back someone you skipped, Boost to go first in line, and no distance limit. It is an auto renewing subscription, weekly, monthly or yearly.
How do I cancel Hej Plus?
In your store account, not in Hej. On iPhone: Settings, your name, Subscriptions, Hej. On Android: Google Play, Payments and subscriptions, Subscriptions, Hej. Cancelling stops the next renewal, and Plus keeps working until the period you paid for ends.
What are coins for?
Coins pay for extras one at a time: one more round, two more minutes in a round, a boost. You buy them once and spend them in the app. They do not renew and they have no cash value.
I bought something and it did not arrive.
Open the app and pull the settings screen down to refresh, or restore purchases from Settings. Purchases go through the App Store or Google Play, so it can take a minute. If it still is not there after a few minutes, email us with the date and the amount and we will find it.
Can I call my matches?
Yes. Voice and video calls are available in a matched chat. Calls run directly between the two phones and are never recorded. You can turn calls off for your account in Settings.
Someone is behaving badly. What do I do?
Report and block are one tap away in every chat and in every round. A report goes to a person, not only to a machine. Blocking is immediate and permanent: you disappear from each other, and you will not be paired again.
How do I stop being seen for a while?
Settings has a pause. Your profile is hidden from rounds while your chats keep working. You can also hide your online status and set the distance you want to be matched within.
How do I delete my account?
Settings, then Account, then Delete Account. Everything is permanently deleted within 30 days. See the delete account page for the details.
How do I reach a human?
Email support@hej.dating. Write from the address on your account, tell us your first name in the app and what happened, and we will come back to you.
