Delete your account
In the app
- Open Hej and go to Settings.
- Scroll to the Account section.
- Tap Delete Account.
- Confirm. That is it.
The same steps work on iPhone and on Android.
Only want a break?
Settings also has Pause my account. Your profile is hidden from rounds, your chats keep working, and you turn it back on whenever you want. Nothing is deleted.
What gets deleted
- Your profile: name, age, gender, photos and everything you wrote.
- Your matches and all your chats, including voice notes, photos and GIFs you sent.
- Your verification result and your verified badge.
- Your location, your settings and your notification tokens.
- Your likes, your skips and your round history.
Once it is gone it cannot be brought back. If you sign up again later you start from nothing, including the selfie check.
How long it takes
Your account disappears from Hej straight away. Nobody can be paired with you, find you or write to you from that moment. Everything is permanently deleted within 30 days, including from the backups as they roll over.
What we have to keep
Two things survive, and only these:
- Purchase records. Dutch tax law requires us to keep records of what was sold for seven years. These are transaction records, not your profile.
- A safety record, if your account was banned for breaking the house rules. It is the minimum needed to stop the same person coming straight back, kept separately from your profile.
Subscriptions and coins
Deleting your account does not cancel Hej Plus. Subscriptions live in your store account, so cancel there first: on iPhone in Settings, your name, Subscriptions; on Android in Google Play, Payments and subscriptions, Subscriptions. Unused coins are lost when the account goes.
If you cannot open the app
Email support@hej.dating from the email address on your account, with the subject "Delete my account". Tell us the first name on your profile so we can find it. We will confirm by email once it is done, within 30 days and usually much sooner.
